How To Source The Best in Ladies Golf Clubs

Attempting to source ladies golf clubs which are both practically and aesthetically designed for female players has until recent times proved difficult and expensive. If you’re a left-handed lady golfer the likelihood of finding a suitable set of golf clubs is even harder.

Lady golfers are unfortunately at a disadvantage in terms of suitable golf equipment in a sport that is predominately male orientated – therefore more equipment is designed and manufactured in relation to the size of the market.

Before manufacturers like Texan Classics, Confidence and Prosimmon Golf produced exclusive lines of ladies golf clubs, female players had to resort to purchasing junior or senior-flex golf equipment – although this is less likely in today’s market of online golf retailers like The Sports HQ offering a comprehensive range of ladies golf equipment in right and left-handed editions.

The physical differences between a male and female golfer leads to both genders having different requirements when it comes to selecting the perfect golf club. For example a stiff shafted golf club would be less suitable for lady golfer, whilst a club that is too flexible is not likely to match a typical lady’s golf swing. A lighter golf club with a graphite shaft is far more likely to produce the best results for lady golfer, unlike a stainless steel shaft with a heavier club-head which can lead to a slight loss of control. The actual golf club length is also important as lady players are typically shorter than their male counterparts and therefore 1-inch shorter clubs are the perfect solution. Before purchasing a set of ladies golf clubs it is recommended to view and sample the clubs in person. In the case of an online purchase it is also advisable to search for a retailer that offers a means to sample the clubs in person – The Sports HQ can offer this service on all items available for sale on its website – www.thesportshq.com

The custom fit option is another way to purchase a set of ladies golf clubs. The recent appearance of Internet based custom fit suppliers has increased accessibility to the benefits of custom fit golf clubs for both sexes. After starting out in golf with a beginner’s set of ladies golf clubs the easiest way to improve your game is to invest in custom built golf clubs which are designed and built to the exact criteria of the player. Unlike some suppliers of custom fit golf clubs – Forgan of St. Andrews does not charge extra for custom fitting ladies’ golf clubs. Forgan’s custom fit website automatically selects the optimum flex, shaft type, length adjustment and type of grip after entering the following attributes: sex, dexterity, height, wrist-to-floor length, swing speed and glove size. The benefits of custom fitting – especially for female golfers are indisputable.

Finding the best ladies golf clubs was historically a difficult task before online retailers like The Sports HQ developed exclusive ranges for lady golfers. Exclusive brands like Prosimmon Golf, GolfGirl and Confidence offer specifically designed and manufactured golf equipment for the female player. To progress from a beginner’s set of ladies golf clubs a player should consider the benefits of custom fitted golf clubs – with manufacturers like Forgan of St. Andrews offering customised ladies golf equipment from their websites www.forgan.co.uk and www.forgangolf.com

The Sports HQ is part of Sports PLC – the UK’s leading manufacturer and supplier of factory direct golf equipment including ladies golf clubs and complete package sets in men’s, ladies, junior and left-handed editions at the lowest online prices.

The Basics Of Buying Ladies Golf Clubs Part 2

Irons
Golfers with slower swings should take the following into consideration when choosing their irons. First of all, you should probably have a 6 or 7 iron as your longest iron club. Only carry a 5 or even a 6 iron if you can hit it confidently and consistently. Most people with slow swings cannot accomplish this. Higher number fairway woods and hybrids will replace the long irons. Another consideration is a wide sole that is rounded to prevent from digging more into the ground and slowing the club face even more. For the same reason don’t choose a large iron head design. By all means, do use irons with a deep back cavity and perimeter weighting.

Hybrids
You should use hybrid clubs to replace at least your long irons. The Nancy Lopez ladies golf club line offers sets with hybrids up to the 7 iron in some cases, and even some sets with hybrids completely replacing all the irons except the pitching and sand wedges. Which hybrids you choose will depend on which fairway woods you carry. You will need to determine how far your ball will fly with your highest numbered fairway wood and then choose your lowest numbered hybrid to fly 10-15 yards less than that. The Nancy Lopez site will give you a good idea about what club choices are appropriate for your swing and ability level.

Wedges
Your pitching wedge (PW) should have at least 4 degrees more loft than your 9 iron. The sand wedge (SW) should have at least 56 degrees of loft or even more. There is probably no need for a gap wedge (GW) unless you have a substantial difference in how far you hit the PW compared to the SW. For people with slower swing seeds, this difference is not normally enough to justify another club. A lob wedge (LW) can also be a good addition to your set. For both the SW and the LW, there is no need for golfers with slower swings to have a large bounce angle, since there will not be enough force in the swing to dig too far into the sand or ground in any case.

Conclusion
If you are a serious golfer and can afford it, the best solution for a great set of ladies golf clubs is to find a certified custom fitter and club maker. The standard, off-the-shelf sets of ladies golf clubs sold in most shops will only fit a small percentage of the population. It is essentially a “one size fits all” proposition. Another good alternative is the Nancy Lopez ladies golf club product lines. You should at least look at their web site to see how they approach fitting your clubs and choosing the right ladies golf clubs to put in your bag. Knowing your swing speeds and what the length of your clubs should be is fundamental in this process. Be aware that most people, both men and women, use clubs that are too long, and they do not use enough loft on the driver.

Finding the

Best Golf Clubs for your Golf Game

It is a delightful and true fact that ladies are very different from men. However, because about 10% of golf club sales are to women, the large golf club manufacturers don’t put the same effort into the ladies as their male counterparts.

One of the gender differences that impacts golf club selection is the amount of proportionate weight and mass in both the hips and the chest. Women have slightly more there and it affects their golf swing. A shorter, more flexible shaft helps the ladies make a smoother swing with less physical effort. A lighter club head is also helpful and ladies clubs usually have smaller club heads.

As a result of these physical differences, women usually have slower swing speeds than men. The faster a golfer swings, the less loft is needed, so the ladies need a little help from their friend, the golf club manufacturer. Golf clubs are now being designed for ladies that help compensate for a slower swing with what is coming to be known as “ladies shaft flex” and a slightly higher degree of loft on each club. When choosing a club, It is very important that your shaft flexibility and club loft match your swing speed. Graphite shafts are a great way to increase club flexibility.

What does this mean to your game? It is uncommon for the average woman golfer to achieve a swing speed over 60 miles an hour. This means, if the golf ball is struck reasonably well, it will probably travel 180 yards down the fairway. Golf club shafts with a ladies flex will insure maximum distance. However, if a lady swung a club with a stiffer shaft that was designed for an 80 mph swing speed, the ball would never reach the 180 yard mark.

A shorter club can also add distance and accuracy to your swing, but how short should your golf club be? A simple way to determine the club length that is best for you is to take two measurements. First how tall are you? Then take your wrist to floor measurement. To do this, relax your arm and point your fingers toward the ground. Right handed players should measure their left hand. Opposite for the lefties. The wrist to floor measurement is from your wrist crease to the floor.

For example, if you are between 5′4″ and 5′7″ and your wrist to floor measurement is 32 ½ “, you will need a club that is ½ inch shorter than the standard size. Visit our Club Length chart to find your exact size.

Contrary to popular belief, less loft doesn’t mean more distance and this is especially true for female golfers, off the tee. A slightly higher lofted driving club will give the ladies a better launch angle and result in a better trajectory and more distance down the fairway. Many women simply use a three wood off the tee and get great results. Drivers should have a loft of between 13 and 15 degrees.

Finally, get a grip. A poor or slippery grip can ruin an otherwise delightful round of golf. Make sure the grip fits your hands. The best way to decide on a grip is to try several different sizes and styles. When you hold a golf club in your hand, your fingers should just touch the heel of your palm. If they don’t touch, the grip is too large. If your fingers “dig in” to your palm heel, it’s too small. Like the three little bears, your grip has to be just right.

Change your grip often. It’s not a huge expense and will reward you with lower scores.

Junior Golf Equipment for the Ladies

Junior Golf Equipment for the Ladies

For some women of smaller stature, or youths who are female, it will be very important to do the correct research in order to make sure that the junior womens golf equipment that is chosen is the best type for the young lady.  Predominantly, many people view the game of golf as a male sport.  Fortunately for females, the female gender and their interest in golf is beginning to get some more exposure lately.

As a result, the types and styles of equipment that have become available are a little more varied and more likely to appeal to the more feminine golf players.  Some people may find that they have some trouble finding junior womens golf equipment in their sporting goods store that is located near them.  Even if they are able to find some junior womens golf equipment, there is usually not the most extensive selection for these young women to choose from.  This can make it very difficult for these people to come to a conclusion when it comes to golf equipment that they are happy with using on a regular basis.  Because of this, it can be very helpful for people to learn about using the internet as a resource in order to be able to find different types of junior womens golf equipment.

By utilizing the search engine on the internet, a person can find many different types of effective junior womens golf equipment.  Not only are there different types of equipment that can be found, but they will also be able to be found in a variety of different styles that the individual might ordinarily not be able to find.  Golf clubs and other types of golf equipment are the tools that are necessary in order to connect the player to the game of golf.  Being able to find tools that a person feels connected to is just as important in the game of golf as if the sport were baseball, softball or football.  This is why so many people would benefit from using the internet in order to locate the proper types and styles of junior womens golf equipment.

Women players should not have to suffer simply because the audience for women golfers is not wide enough in order to warrant the sporting good stores having as extensive an inventory for the women as for the men.  Instead, these players should look into solving their problem by using the internet in order to purchase the equipment that they need in order to play.

In addition to having a good selection of supplies, the stores on the internet are also more likely to have competitive prices when it comes to junior womens golf equipment.  This is important for individuals that are working on a tight budget or just those who want to be able to conserve their available funds.  Having so many stores centrally located on the internet is the main factor that leads to the competitive prices that many consumers are able to enjoy while shopping on the internet for golf equipment and other items that the consumers might need on a regular basis.

The Basics Of Buying Ladies Golf Clubs Part 1

The Basics Of Buying Ladies Golf Clubs Part 1

Ladies are at a disadvantage when it comes to putting together a set of golf clubs that fits them well and from which they can get the most out of their games. The reason is that there are few choices in normal off-the-shelf ladies golf clubs. With typically less than 10% of sales for a golf club company coming from ladies golf clubs, there are simply few choices in club styles, shaft flex, swing weights, or lofts normally available in most golf shops. An exception to this is the excellent line offered by Nancy Lopez Golf Clubs. That is the subject of another article, but you can easily find their web site with a simple search.

In general women have slower swing speeds than men and need shorter clubs and higher loft. There are of course women with better and stronger swings than most men. Lorena Ochoa of the LPGA tour averages about 270 yards on her tee shots. This is astonishing for a woman who weighs about 115 pounds! She is the top rated professional woman player in the world, however, and this article is meant for women with less ability than the top LPGA pros possess.

Driver Considerations
You must know your swing speed with at least a driver and preferably with both driver and 5 iron. Women who can swing the driver more than 70 MPH can use titanium faced drivers effectively and take advantage of the spring effect off the face that such a club offers. If your driver swing speed is more like 60 MPH, you would have to find a special titanium face, and these are not readily available. If you are that serious you will probably be having custom ladies golf clubs made by a certified fitter and club maker. So in that case ask your club maker if he or she can offer options. As for club face loft, the slower your swing, the higher the loft is needed. If you can easily get the ball in the air, a loft of 13-14 degrees should work well for your driver. If you have trouble getting the ball in the air, you may need to use a 16 degree 3 wood to get the most out of your swing. Other ways to help get the ball a bit higher in the air are to use an offset hosel or a more flexible shaft.

Fairway Woods
Fairway woods are critical clubs for women or men with slower golf swings. If your swing speed is in the 60MPH range, you should start your fairway woods with a 5 wood and leave out the 3 wood. Your other woods would then probably need to be a 9 and 13 wood. The reason for skipping an odd numbered wood is because you won’t be hitting the ball that much farther with a 5 wood than you will with a 7 wood, for example. In other words the gap in distance between the two clubs is not enough to justify carrying the other club. Regarding club length, there should be at least a one inch difference for each odd numbered club. That is, the 7 wood should be one inch shorter than the 5 wood, and the 9 wood should be 2 inches shorter than the 5 wood, for example.

For women who swing 70 MPH or greater, a 3 wood could be a good choice, but it should have at least a 16 degree loft in order to keep the ball in the air longer. This group of golfers can justify having every other odd number wood in their bags, such as 3, 5, 7 and 9 woods, for example.

Ladies Golf Club Fititng – What You Need To Know

Ladies Golf Club Fititng – What You Need To Know

Ladies, if you have recently bought any new equipment, you are very aware that the options for ladies golf club fitting is very small compared to the men. You can still receive a proper ladies golf club fitting however, you may need to look a little deeper. Let.s talk about if you need to have a ladies golf club fitting, why the golf clubs in the golf shop usually are not for you and how to find a qualified ladies club fitter.

No matter your skill level, you need to have a ladies golf club fitting done prior to any equipment purchase. A qualified club fitter will be able to match your swing speed and body type to the proper shaft, length of club, lie angle of club, grip, etc. Why does all of this matter? With a proper ladies golf club fitting the result will be a set of clubs that fit you. In turn this means that you will not need to manipulate the club and you will be able to swing it more freely. This will lead to more consistent golf shots, lower scores and more fun for you!

Do not blame your Golf Professional for not having your exact specs in stock. Here is a quick business lesson. The manufacturing companies are coming out with new sets of golf clubs and drivers quicker than they did just five years ago. This makes it more difficult for your golf shop to “sell through” the product. To combat this, golf shops have ordered more of the measurements that fit the “mainstream.” Most golfers are fit into a club that is a little longer and a little more upright than “the mainstream standards.” Another reason you probably will not find your specifications in the golf shop is that overall, golf shops have started carrying less inventory. Why? As club fitting has become more and more popular, the manufactures have stepped up to the plate and will build and ship the ordered product within three days! Thus, it makes more sense to carry a smaller inventory on high dollar low profit margin items.

You will need to find a PGA Professional who is qualified in ladies golf club fitting. How do you do this? You can go to PGA.com and look for a professional in your area. Call your local club or golf shop and ask for someone who is their expert with a ladies golf club fitting. In addition, ask your friends who they have used to receive a ladies golf club fitting. Once you find a name or two, call them or stop by to meet them prior to the ladies golf club fitting. Make sure the fitting will be held outdoors and they have fitting clubs that match the manufacturer that you are interested in purchasing.

Once the ladies golf club fitting is over, the PGA Professional should be able to explain how he or she came up with the correct club or clubs for you. This will include the proper length of the club, the proper lie angle of the golf club as well as the proper grip size.

This article has given you the information on a ladies golf club fitting, why the golf clubs in the golf shop usually are not for you and how to find a qualified ladies club fitter. Finding a qualified PGA golf club fitter that can get you into a set that matches you and your swing WILL make the game much easier for you!

How to Find the Best Ladies Golf Clubs

How to Find the Best Ladies Golf Clubs

Trying to find ladies golf clubs to fit a female golfer has always been difficult and even though many more women now seem to be playing golf it does not get any easier.

Like any situation where you are trying to find equipment for use by a human, whether male or female, there is always going to be compromise in how suitable the equipment will be.

More Men Than Women Need Golf Clubs

Any lady golfer is always going to find that in a male dominated marketplace the number of options available for suitable ladies golf clubs is going to be on the low side. Golf clubs have high production and development costs and there getting clubs to market just for the ladies may be restrictive from a cost perspective.

Sometimes lucky lady golfers will find just what they need in a golf club straight off the shelf, but it is more usual for this not to occur. What normally happens is that the search for a ladies golf club, which is really comfortable to use, takes a long time to find and this becomes an even longer process when a complete set of golf clubs is needed.

Physical Differences Will Influence Choice

The physical differences between men and women means that both sexes have different requirements when it comes to selecting that perfect golf club. A club that is too stiff or too flexible will not be suitable for the lady golfer and a standard gold club is unlikely to match a female golfers swing in most cases.

If the golf clubs are lighter then they are more likely to be suitable for ladies as the increased swing speed will longer shots, but the lady may find that there is a slight loss of the control that would be available from a heavier club. The actual length of the club is also important as women are normally shorter than men and only a shorter ladies club will bring the comfort required for a better fit.

As with all things where fit and comfort are of great importance it always pays to test the product if at all possible before making the final commitment to part with your money. With ladies golf clubs you must prepare yourself for a lot of research before you reach this point.

Try A Custom Build Or Female Only Clubs

Many golf equipment manufacturers now make golf clubs just for women, including wedges, woods and irons, that are design with meeting the criteria that lady golfers need. These clubs are often lighter in the hand and will contribute greatly to a better golf game for females and more progress than with standard clubs.

As a woman gets better at golf then her demand for better clubs will also increase and the requirement for something that fits really well becomes even more important. In this case it may be necessary to have a set of custom golf clubs made to ensure the best fit possible.

There will be additional costs to pay for ladies golf clubs that are custom made. The upside of this though is that the golf game of anyone that makes this bigger investment is likely to improve quicker and to a higher level and that will make it worthwhile.

Although there are many more purpose built womens golf clubs on the market these days, it is still relatively difficult for a lady golfer to find what she needs to suit her golf skill and her style of golf.

Never Stop Searching For The Best Golf Clubs

Finding the best ladies golf clubs is probably one of the most difficult tasks that a female golfer will face. Therefore it is recommended to make this search a high priority to ensure steady progress in this game, because if you have the right equipment it will be easier to improve.
